Hello friend, I’m Ellen
YT-200 | HOLISTIC THERAPIST (LICSW) | WRITER | TEACHER
My dream is to restore connection to ourselves, each other, and the natural world in order to cultivate presence & reshape our cultural approach to stress and overstimulation.
My name is Ellen Slater. I am a human, writer, therapist, and teacher dedicated to building bridges between the head and heart. My roots have grown from and been shaped by the landscapes of St. Louis, New York, Chicago, Seattle, and Jackson Hole. I have spent months in indigenous countries and road tripping across the country. After many years studying in cities and institutions, I heeded my heart’s call to move to the mountains. Through my lived experience and relentless passion I have created a therapeutic model to awaken and integrate the head & heart. I’m so glad you are here.
From meditation to research, relational connection to earth medicine, my work is an exercise in integration.
I study and draw upon Somatic Therapy, Relational Neuroscience, Earth Medicine, and Ancient Mystics to free ourselves of modern stress & embrace this one precious life.
Deeply influenced by my training in EMDR, Earth Based Spirituality, Psychology, Mindfulness, and Crystal Singing Bowls, I have created an approach that leans on the body as our guide towards healing. The Head & Heart approach teaches a unique, one of a kind framework called “The Inner Prism”. This approach recognizes the multi-dimensional nature of all living creatures and recognizes our responses to the world are sophisticated adaptations.
These adaptations or ways we show up in the world are called “inner aspects”, and everyone has them. Some aspects are highly driven and other aspects are soft and tender, some aspects are sad and jealous while others are joyful and confident. The aspects blend with one another, some represent particular ages and others are just a felt sense in the body. Relating to your inner world as a prism offers a new paradigm of self-love.
My Inner Prism approach combines intellectual understanding with direct experience and offers an evidence based path to integrating and balancing your inner world, healing any painful adaptations that no longer serve you, and finding wholeness. You will gain deep skills in how to listen to your body and maintain a healthy nervous system. In turn, you will cultivate healthy relationships with others and your life as a whole.
Learn a new way to listen.
My Background
With a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Psychological Services from Northwestern University, I earned a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. My specialized training includes trauma, anxiety, and substance use, highlighted by a Fellowship with the Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Training at the Seattle Veteran Affairs Hospital.
I’ve delved deeply into neuroscience and compassion, completing a year-long immersion program in Interpersonal Neurobiology under the guidance of international expert Dr. Bonnie Badenoch. As a certified yoga instructor I seamlessly integrate breathing and movement into trainings, workshops, and therapy. I would love to share practice with you.
FROM MY HEART TO YOURS
The teachings I share support self-awareness, self-love, and connection with all those around us. I have dedicated much of my time and energy studying these diverse teachings, yet will remain a student my entire life.
I see myself as a fellow passenger, we are on this journey together.
